Belgian Delights at Belgica: A Culinary Oasis in the Heart of Saigon

A travel report by our adventuring editor, David Lomas.

Welcome, travellers and epicureans, to Belgica – a hidden gem tucked away in the rather upmarket District 2, Ho Chi Minh City.

Join me on my gastronomic adventure as we explore this exquisite Belgian beer bar and restaurant that has become a haven for those seeking a taste of Europe in the heart of Vietnam.

A Belgian Haven in Saigon

As you step into Belgica, the charm of Belgium unfolds before you. This culinary oasis brings the warmth of European hospitality to the quieter part of Saigon. The ambiance is both cozy and inviting, making it the perfect retreat from the energetic pulse of the city.

Mussels, Fries, and More:

My journey at Belgica began with a delectable lunch featuring mussels and homemade fries – a simple but iconic Belgian duo that has earned its place in the hearts of many food enthusiasts.

It really is a match made in culinary heaven.

Sipping on Abbey Bliss

What’s a Belgian dish without a very authentic Belgian brew? Belgica proudly boasts its own Abbey beer, brewed on the premises. A real testament to the restaurant’s dedication to providing an authentic Belgian experience.

As I indulged in a glass (or two), and an extra complimentary glass of Abbey from Steven, the Belgian owner, each sip revealing his own craftsmanship behind his fabulous beer.

Warm Hospitality, Belgian Style:

One of Belgica’s standout features is its warm and friendly staff. From the moment you enter, you’re welcomed as a friend, and the attentive service ensures your dining experience is an absolute pleasure.

A Taste of Belgium in Saigon

Belgica isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a culinary journey to Belgium without leaving Saigon. Whether you’re a seasoned beer connoisseur, a foodie on the hunt for new flavours, or a traveler eager to explore local gems, Belgica offers an authentic taste of Belgian culture in the heart of Vietnam.

Practical Information:

  • Location: Belgica is nestled in the heart of District 2, making it easily accessible for tourists and away from the crowds.
  • Signature Dish: Don’t miss the Mussels and Fries—their pièce de résistance. But you’ll be spoilt for choices on the menu.
  • House Brew: Dive into the unique flavours of Belgica’s own Abbey beer for a truly immersive experience. (6.7% beware!)

As you plan your Saigon escapade, you must mark Belgica on your map. It’s not just a restaurant; it’s a culinary journey, and an experience that transcends borders and brings the best of Belgian cuisine to the vibrant streets of Ho Chi Minh City.
